Cubs to sign Ross, add pair

The Cubs have reportedly signed former Red Sox catcher David Ross to a two-year, $5 million deal. They also claimed outfielder Shane Peterson (A’s) and catcher Ryan Lavarnway (Dodgers) off waivers and made the signing of relief pitcher Jason Motte official. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated IF Logan Watkins and RHP Donn Roach for assignment.
